CCTV images have been released of men police wish to trace after an assault which left a man hospitalised with serious head injuries in Sunderland.

Officers are currently investigating the incident which took place before 3.20am on February 19. The Force were alerted to a fight that happened on Norfolk Street in Sunderland.

Two men had left the Trilogy nightclub in the city centre and were involved in a verbal altercation which turned into a physical fight. At that point, a third male intervened to try and break the pair up – before he was punched in the face by one of the men.

They said: "Enquiries are ongoing into the incident, and as part of the investigation, police have now released the images of two men who they would like to identify. They were in the area at the time of the incident and could have information that can assist the investigation.
