CCTV footage shows car smashing into Mayo takeaway as gardai investigate

Dramatic CCTV footage has emerged of the terrifying moment that a car appears to smash through the front door of a Mayo business in the early hours of last Tuesday morning, causing "significant damage" to the premises.

An Garda Siochana have launched an investigation into the incident, which involved a car reversing through the front door of a business premises in the Ballinrobe area of Co Mayo, prior to a reported burglary which took place shortly before 2.30am on Tuesday, April 11.

The 26-second clip from the business's CCTV shows the car slamming into the front door, triggering the alarm. The car then reverses into the door a second time and, on that occasion, it gives way and the car gains access into the premises, which Galway Beo reports is a well-known local takeaway.

The clip then shows the vehicle pull out of the premises and away to the camera's right before the 26-second clip ends.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: "Gardaí are investigating a reported burglary that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday 11th April 2023 at a business premises in Ballinrobe, County Mayo.

"Significant damage was caused to the front of the premises during the course of this incident. Garda investigations are ongoing."
