CBSE announces Class X and XII results; Girls outperform boys

The Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) declared results for classes X and XII on Friday which saw a pass percentage of 94.40% and 92.71%.

Girls outshone boys in both the classes – they had a pass percentage of 95.21% versus 93.08% for boys in Class X, while in Class XII they recorded a pass percentage of 94.54% and boys recorded 91.25%. A total of 3.63 lakh students appeared for the final exam in class X and 2.93 lakh appeared in class XII

Transgender persons had a pass percentage of 90% in class X and 100% in class XII. The Board didn’t announce a merit list this year yet again which has been discontinued from 2020 when the schools were closed due to the pandemic.

The exams for both the classes were split in two parts- term 1 and term 2. The CBSE said on Friday that the final scores were based on 30% weightage for term 1 exam and 70% weightage for term 2. The decision was based on feedback from students as well as views of a large number of school principals and officials sought through a consultative mechanism, following which the Competent Committee accepted their recommendation.

The feedback CBSE received was that students were unable to perform to their full potential in term 1 as they were appearing for an objective pattern for the first time in a board exam without adequate precedent or practice, while feedback for term 2 was positive with students expressing their satisfaction with the exam.

CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bharadwaj told PTI that for the 2022-2023 academic session the Board will revert to a single end of year exam instead of dividing it into two parts. The final exam for class 10 and 12 will be conducted from February 15, he said.

Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru and Chennai saw the highest pass percentages across the country for both class X and XII.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools performed the best among different categories of schools with a pass percentage of 98.93 for class XII and 99.71% for class X.
