Last season was a changing of the guard at quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Kenny Pickett came in to replace Ben Roethlisberger and gave the Steelers nothing but hope for the future. But according to CBS Sports Pickett is one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL.
They ranked every team’s starting quarterback for the upcoming season and Pickett ranked No. 28, ahead of only Mac Jones, Baker Mayfield, Desmond Ridder and Sam Howell.
Here is what CBS Sports had to say about Pickett.
How far does “grit” get you? Certainly few young QBs are better-suited to grow thanks to an improved Steelers front and pass-catching group, but Pickett thrived more as a late-game fighter than efficient full-timer as a rookie.
Just for reference, they have all of the 2023 rookie class of quarterbacks slated to start as well as Jordan Love ahead of Pickett. Pickett has more starts and wins than all four of these quarterbacks combined.
With the talent the Steelers front office has put around Pickett, we expect huge things from him this season. After throwing for 2,404 yards last season as a rookie in 12 starts, Pickett’s arrow is pointed straight up. He won six of his last seven starts in 2022, which was as good as any quarterback in the league.
