CBS Sports names coach as Ravens’ biggest offensive X-Factor for 2023 NFL season

The Baltimore Ravens have made plenty of additions to their offensive over the course of the 2023 offseason. They’ve added weapons at the wide receiver position for quarterback Lamar Jackson in Odell Beckham Jr., Zay Flowers and others while also bringing in depth along the edges.

When naming each NFL team’s biggest offensive X-Factor for the 2023 season, Jared Dubin of CBS Sports didn’t put a player for Baltimore, but instead named a coach in offensive coordinator Todd Monken. When explaining why, Dubin talked about how it’s on Monken to utilize Jackson better within the team’s offensive system.

“I mean, the Ravens basically told us this was their X-factor when they made the move to fire longtime coordinator Greg Roman and hire Monken in his stead. Monken is charged with opening up and modernizing the passing-game concepts to complement the diverse, efficient run game the Ravens have built since Lamar Jackson assumed the starting job. He’ll have help in the form of Odell Beckham Jr., Nelson Agholor and Zay Flowers joining the receiving corps, but the concepts need to put Jackson in far better position to succeed than the ones that the Ravens have been utilizing over the past few years. And that’s on Monken.”
