The Atlanta Falcons made two trades prior to Tuesday’s deadline, but they weren’t the type of blockbuster deals that fans were hoping for. The team wasn’t able to land Montez Sweat or Chase Young, however, Atlanta added depth at two positions.
Wide receiver Van Jefferson came over from Los Angeles a few weeks ago and defensive lineman Kentavius Street was acquired from Philadelphia on Monday. Neither player should be considered a difference-maker, although both could help the Falcons down the stretch.
Atlanta didn’t give up a lot in either trade, so it’s tough to be overly critical regardless of how Jefferson and Street perform. CBS Sports gave the Falcons favorable marks in their recent trade grades feature.
The Falcons really had nothing to lose by acquiring Jefferson, as CBS Sports pointed out. The former Rams wideout dropped a critical pass in last week’s loss to the Titans, but Atlanta may need him with Drake London banged up.
As for Street, he was productive under Falcons defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen when the two were in New Orleans in 2022. Street didn’t have the same level of production in Philadelphia this season, though.
While the Falcons missed out on some bigger names, they didn’t mortgage their future for a short-term rental, and that’s probably a good thing.
