CBS Sports analyst projecting a big leap for Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence

CBS Sports analyst Adam Schein believes Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is primed for a breakout second season after a mediocre rookie year. He finished his first season throwing 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions while failing to complete 60% of his passes.

It seems likely now that he has Doug Pederson who is a former NFL quarterback and Super Bowl-winning head coach. Jacksonville also brought him several weapons at wide receiver and tight end. Lawrence also gets back his former Clemson teammate Travis Etienne Jr. who missed last season due to a Lisfranc injury he suffered in the Jaguars’ second preseason game.

Schein is excited to see Etienne and reminded viewers how much he loved Jacksonville’s pickup. He believes the offense should be vastly improved due to Etienne and their free-agent additions.

“I really think that the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offense will be vastly improved this season,” said Schein. “Seriously, I really think Travis Etienne is going to be a great player. I loved that draft pick. Didn’t love when Urban Meyer said he was going to use him as a wide receiver. But then he got hurt and Urban was a disaster and now it’s a fresh start.

“[…] Remember, this guy was a star. Unbelievable ball player on the collegiate level at Clemson. And I think you team him with James Robinson [plus it will be] Year 2 for Lawrence. Say what you want about the contract, but Christian Kirk can play. I mean, that’s a good group of skill position players. I’m telling you right now, major jump for Trevor Lawrence.”

Because of those signings and the Jaguars’ 12 picks in this year’s draft, I agree with Schein that Jacksonville will be much improved and Lawrence will have a breakout season. Fans have also expressed that they are looking forward to Lawrence’s progression in 2022 and think Pederson will play a big role in that.

Jaguars fans will see if Schein’s prediction will come to fruition in a couple of months when the season kicks off.
