CBS has announced early renewals for two of its popular shows, 'Ghosts' and 'Fire Country,' for the 2024-25 season. Both series have been confirmed for a third season, aligning with CBS's strategy to maintain its position as the top-rated broadcast network in primetime.
'Ghosts,' which premiered on October 7, 2021, is a comedy based on the British sitcom of the same name. The show follows Samantha and Jay Arondekar, a married couple from New York who inherit a country house only to discover that it is haunted by ghosts tied to the property. With the departure of 'Young Sheldon' after seven seasons, 'Ghosts' is being considered as a potential anchor for the Thursday 8 p.m. ET time slot in the upcoming season.
On the other hand, 'Fire Country,' which debuted on October 7, 2022, is an action drama that centers around Bode Donovan, a convict seeking to reduce his prison sentence by participating in the California Conservation Camp Program. As 'S.W.A.T.' concludes this spring and 'Blue Bloods' prepares for its final season, CBS is looking to leverage 'Fire Country' to introduce a spinoff series featuring Morena Baccarin as a sheriff. Baccarin is set to make a guest appearance in an episode this season, serving as a backdoor pilot for the potential new show.
Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, expressed enthusiasm for the renewals, citing the strong storytelling, talented cast, and growing fan base of both 'Ghosts' and 'Fire Country.' She emphasized the networks' commitment to building on the success of these shows and bringing them back for another season.
As the broadcast networks gear up for upfront week in May, more renewal announcements are expected in the coming weeks. CBS's decision to renew 'Ghosts' and 'Fire Country' underscores its confidence in the shows' appeal to viewers across traditional broadcast and streaming platforms.
