Cavani, Matic, Bailly: Manchester United injury latest and return dates

Manchester United are close to full strength for the weekend Premier League showdown at Leeds United.

Having returned to winning ways against Brighton midweek, the Old Trafford giants are gearing up for a short trip across the M62 to Elland Road on Sunday afternoon (2pm).

That meeting with their rivals comes three days before the Champions League last-16 first leg with Atletico Madrid.

Combined they represent a hugely important doubleheader for United as they continue a top-four charge, before getting down to business in the marquee European competition.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has spoken to the media in the build-up to facing Leeds.

During that pre-match press conference, the German provided updates on Eric Bailly (ankle), Nemanja Matic (shin) and Edinson Cavani (groin and stomach) and news of a setback for back-up goalkeeper Tom Heaton (stomach).

Here is the current state of play on the Carrington treatment table;

Eric Bailly

Injury: Ankle

Return date: February 20 vs Leeds (A)

After picking up an injury while on Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) duty with the Ivory Coast, the centre-back has returned to training and will be available for selection, if called upon, during the Leeds game.

Nemanja Matic

Injury: Shin

Return date: February 20 vs Leeds (A)

What Rangnick has said: "We are grateful we have more players available, once again. Nemanja Matic was back training today for the first time and did quite well and might be available for Sunday against Leeds, if not the next two games."

Edinson Cavani

Injury: Groin/stomach

Possible return date: February 23 vs Atletico Madrid (A)

What Rangnick has said: "As it seems, Edinson Cavani will still be out. He's still having some problems with his groin and also his stomach, the same is true with Tom Heaton. Apart from that, everybody seems to be available."
