Firefighters have identified the cause of a fire that ripped through a former children's home.
The blaze broke out at St Gabriel's Convent on Church Road in Woolton just after 6pm on Saturday, October 8. Firefighters worked through the night to fight the fire as flames tore through the first floor and roof space of the derelict building.
Crews continued to work to tame the blaze until firefighting activity concluded at 5.30am on Sunday, leaving the scene shortly after. One fire engine returned to the scene later on Sunday morning to check for hotspots.

Photos taken from a drone showed the aftermath of the fire including the damage caused to the roof of the building. The convent had already been gutted by a fire in 2016, which tore through the interior and collapsed the top floor.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service today confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the fire has now been carried out. A spokesperson from the fire service said: “An investigation into the cause of the fire has been carried out and determined, due to a lack of accidental ignition sources, that the fire was started deliberately.
"Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service will continue to work closely with partners including Merseyside Police to look at the issues surrounding this site.”
