Catherine Zeta-Jones marks daughter Carys' birthday with throwback video as she shares name meaning

Catherine Zeta-Jones has marked her daughter's birthday with a sweet video. The Swansea-born actress celebrated Carys turning 20 years old with a throwback montage that included a sweet picture of Catherine and Carys together, as well as a video clip of Carys dancing in front of a lake as a little girl.

The video clip also shared the meaning behind the Welsh name Carys, giving Catherine's followers an insight into why she and her husband Michael Douglas chose it for their youngest child. It read: "Carys is a Welsh feminine given name derived from the word caru, to love."

The 53-year-old, who grew up in Mumbles, captioned the clip: "20 years ago today my daughter Carys came in to my arms and there is not a day I haven’t cherished. Happy Birthday beautiful lady."

Responding Carys said to her mum: "Thank you mommy! I love you so deeply- thank you for the wonderful mother you have been for these 20 years."

Many fans also commented on the post, with one writing: "I remember I was 20 years old, working at Dylan Thomas’ Boat House when the news broke she was born - I felt all chuffed you called her Carys, knowing Dylan was named after Dylan Thomas. Cariad mawr."

While another added: "Happy birthday from Wales," and a third simply said: "When I started following you, Carys was 7. I feel so old. Happy Birthday gorgeous!"

Carys is Catherine and Michael's youngest child, the Hollywood pair also share a son Dylan, who is 22 years old. Carys was born on April 20 in 2003, Catherine was nine months pregnant with her when she won an Oscar for her role in the 2002 film Chicago.

Catherine played Velma Kelly in the film and was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category alongside Kathy Bates, Julianne Moore, Queen Latifah, and Meryl Streep. Last month Catherine shared a string of throwbacks to the musical as she marked the Oscars.

The Welsh star wrote: "Oscars!!! 20 years ago I was fortunate to pick up a little guy for 'Chicago' sending congratulations to all the nominees for tonight's celebrations!" You can read more on this here. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
