Catherine Tyldesley dazzles on red carpet at BAFTA Television Awards in princess gown as Corrie is snubbed for an award

Former Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley looked the epitome of elegance at Britain's most anticipated TV awards. Catherine, who played Eva Price in the ITV soap, looked a world away from the famous cobbles as she walked the red carpet at the 2023 British Academy Television Awards.

The actress, from Walkden, stunned at the Royal Festival Hall in London in a gorgeous blue floor-length gown with full skirt. Catherine, 39, wore her brunette tresses pulled back and she accessorised with delicate earrings to match her princess-style dress.

The mother-of-two added a small white clutch bag to complete the look. She completed the look with a nude lip, fluttery eyelashes and perfectly-groomed brows.

The awards look at some of the most-loved shows to have appeared on our small screen. This year is the 69th edition of the annual awards, screened on BBC One at 7pm.

Nominees include fellow former Corrie star Sarah Lancashire, from Oldham, for Leading Actress in the Sky Atlantic show Julia about the life of American television chef Julia Child, who pioneered the cooking-show genre. And Maxine Peake, 48, from Westhoughton, is nominated for her portrayal of Anne Williams and her fight for the truth about her son's death in the 1989 the Hillsborough disaster in ITV's Anne.

Loose Women star Frankie Bridge, 34, also turned heads at the awards in a black high-neck cutaway detail dress, while Strictly Come Dancing presenter Tess Daly, 54, was going for gold in a shimmering halter neck dress. Tess is already looking ahead to the next series of the BBC One dance show, which starts in the autumn, as she told fans on her Instagram: "Found these pics from last years Strictly fitting! only 4 months to go… (not that I’m counting)."

Her co-host Claudia Winkleman, 51, gave a nod to her hit BBC gameshow The Traitors by rocking the red carpet in a black jacket with a 'Faithful' slogan. The gripping reality programme is up for Reality and Constructed Factual and Claudia is up for Best Entertainment Performance.

And, looking a far cry from the I'm a Celebrity jungle, Georgia 'Toff' Toffolo posed for the cameras in a romantic red dress with white lace detail and red rose detail. The awards will be hosted by comedy duo Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranaganathan.

Corrie fans have been left disappointed this year that the Salford-based soap has missed out on a nomination this year. Last year Corrie paid a special tribute as the world's longest-running soap picked up a BAFTA TV award for Best Soap and Continuing Drama.

The long-running soap fought off competition from Casualty, Emmerdale and Holby City for the gong and Sally Dynevor, who plays the show's Sally Metcalfe, dedicated the win to Sophie Lancaster and her mother Sylvia, who died in April last year. Sylvia founded the Sophie Lancaster Foundation in memory of her daughter, who was kicked to death in 2007 because she was dressed as a goth.

The soap had the help and support of Sylvia when they portrayed a shocking hate crime on-screen in 2021 with goth Nina Lucas and boyfriend Seb Franklin, played by Mollie Gallagher and Harry Visinoni. The heartbreaking scenes saw the pair set upon and attacked before Seb died from his injuries in hospital.

On stage after accepting the award Sally said: "We weren’t expecting this tonight, we really weren’t, so thank you so much Bafta for this award. Working on this show is just a privilege – and the drama and the comedy go so well on Corrie.

Claudia had a message (PA)

"And one of the most important stories we have told this year was the hate crime story. So we would like to dedicate this to Sophie Lancaster and her mother Sylvia Lancaster."
