Catherine O'Hara always wanted to wear different wigs on Schitt's Creek

Catherine O'Hara always wanted to wear different wigs on 'Schitt's Creek'.

The 70-year-old actress played Moira Rose on the hit Netflix series and was keen to don a variety of fake hairpieces from the start, even though her co-star Eugene Levy was unsure how that would work.

She told UsWeekly: "At the very beginning, I said, ‘I’d like to wear different wigs [in] different scenes,’ and Eugene was like, ‘Um, OK, how would that work?’ They made it work!"

Meanwhile, the 'Home Alone' star revealed that she opted to save some of her costume when she was evacuated from her home during the LA wildfires but didn't keep many of the wigs she wore on set because she doesn't have the facilities to care for them properly.

She added: " was offered a lot of wigs, but I don’t have a setup to take good care of them, so I only brought [home] the Vivien wig, which was my soap opera character’s wig.

"That went with me in the evacuation!"

But Catherine appreciated that she got the chance to work alongside a host of costume designers who understood that she wanted to create a "crazy character" on screen through her outfits.

She said: "It’s just fun to work with people who collaborate and allow you to create an inconsistently crazy character with an inconsistent way of speaking and an amazing wardrobe.

"The show relaunched opportunities for all of us."

The actress did not lose her house in the wildfires - which have so far destroyed thousands of properties across Los Angeles - but admitted that it was down to sheer "luck" and just wants to help others.

Catherine - who is married to Bo Welch and has Matthew, 30, as well as 28-year-old Luke with him - said: "It didn’t feel right praying for my home to be saved. We were really lucky. The least you can do is feel horrible and just try to find ways to help others."
