Police are investigating an attempted rape at Catford station in the early hours of Monday morning.

Trains were stopped from alighting at the south London platform after reports of the sex attack at 1am on Monday.

A BTP spokeswoman said: “The station was closed while specialist officers attended to investigate the scene. It has since reopened, and enquiries remain ongoing.”

Thameslink rail tweeted ahead of Monday’s rush hour: “We have just been told that trains cannot call at Catford due to a police investigation.

“Trains will run non-stop through this station. Southeastern will accept Thameslink tickets at Catford Bridge station, which is next door. TfL Buses are also accepting rail tickets.”

National Rail also tweeted: “Catford Bridge station is next door to Catford, and can still be served. This station has Southeastern services to & from London Bridge and Charing Cross, and Thameslink tickets will be accepted onboard. You may also use London Buses in the local area.”

Trains restarted from the station at just before 7am.

In an unrelated incident, a 25-year-old man was attacked in Woolwich Station with passengers reporting seeing huge blood stains on the Elizabeth Line platform on Sunday.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

The victim has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home, police added.

Anyone who may have information relating to this incident is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 20 of 09/01/23.
