Cate Blanchett has slammed silly stars for 'living their lives through social media'.
The Australian star, regarded as one of the best actresses of all-time, took aim at those in Hollywood who document details of their everyday lives on apps such as Instagram, and TikTok.
Two-time Oscar winner Cate, who resides in her Sussex mansion with her husband and their four children, said she was sickened by the suggestion actors need to make content in order to stay relevant.
“The whole thing that has developed with streaming - algorithms that need to be fed - is that somehow we are content providers and that makes me want to throw up,” Cate said, according to MailOnline.
And she lives in fear of being the subject of online gossip, and feels “panic” having her life and what she says commented on.
“The last thing I want to do is to be someone who is filling space that has been created. Don't say something unless you have something to say,” she added.
Cate recently made history as she was honoured at prestigious Spanish awards ceremony Goya with the first-ever International Lifetime Achievement gong.
The 52-year-old was presented with the award by director Pedro Almodovar and actress Penelope Cruz, and Cate said it was watching Spanish films while she was in high school that changed how she saw the world.
“Since then I have been attracted to the visual language of Spanish cinema,” she said.
While the revered actress, who is set to star in the upcoming horror thriller Nightmare Alley alongside Bradley Cooper, has shunned social media, she has embraced the world of podcasting, and will be releasing her own in April.
The Lord of the Rings star has teamed up with environmentalist Danny Kennedy on the podcast, called Climate of Change with Cate Blanchett and Danny Kennedy, and the episodes will address the climate crisis.
Cate and Danny will interview a number of special guests on the podcast, streaming exclusively on Audible, and it’s already been commissioned for two seasons.
“Danny's knowledge about and passion for climate solutions is infectious, and our experience developing this project with the folks at StoryHunter for Audible has been a shot in the arm - and has gone a long way to tempering our eco-anxiety,' she said in a statement.
“We hope that our listeners enjoy hearing the conversations as much as we have enjoyed having them.”
