Cate Blanchett set to make new career move in bid to fight climate change

Hollywood superstar Cate Blanchett is set to join the world of podcasts in a bid to address the world's changing climate.

The actress, 52, has announced her surprising career move to podcast host alongside American clean-technology entrepreneur and environmental activist, Danny Kennedy, 50.

The show, which will be exclusive to Audible, will see the hosts address the current climate crisis and is set to be released across the world in April.

The pair will welcome guests to the podcast, which has already been commissioned to run for as last two series.

Together, they will all discuss ways members of the public can combat climate change.

Cate released a statement to say the move is a joyous extension of her relationship with her production company Dirty Films.

She said: "This podcast is a joyous extension of a long-standing friendship that all of us at Dirty Films have had with the wonderful Danny Kennedy.

"Danny's knowledge about and passion for climate solutions is infectious, and our experience developing this project with the folks at StoryHunter for Audible has been a shot in the arm - and has gone a long way to tempering our eco-anxiety.

"We hope that our listeners enjoy hearing the conversations as much as we have enjoyed having them."

Aurelie De Troyer, SVP, International English Content at Audible, added "Podcasts are the perfect vehicle to educate and raise awareness of important issues and it’s an honour to collaborate with the extremely talented Cate and Danny on their first podcast.

"We have been blown away by the passion for this project from the teams at Dirty Films and Storyhunter and we know this will be something special."

The new project comes after Cate's role in Netflix's dark comedy Don't Look Up, which also featured the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio.

The movie is focussed on a pair of astronomers who predict the world is about to end as a comet hurtles towards earth.

The duo struggle to get their warnings taken seriously by rich and international politicians.

Cate revealed that she had to wear her own fake teeth and wig in the movie after coronavirus restrictions meant she couldn't have a make-up artist.

Speaking to Graham Norton last month she explained: "Because of Covid, it was very difficult to get anyone to do anything.

"So I happened to have a set of teeth and wig from a previous movie. Everything else is makeup and acting!"
