Cate Blanchett 'couldn't afford' wedding photographer

Cate Blanchett has opened up about her wedding

Cate Blanchett had "no money" when she married Andrew Upton in 1997.

The 55-year-old actress has opened up about her wedding revealing the couple were broke when they tied the knot and couldn't afford a photographer so they only have one good picture from their big day.

During an appearance on 'The Drew Barrymore Show', Cate explained: "When we got married we had absolutely no money. We couldn't have a photographer and we had two friends who were photographers.

"One guy who got so drunk he forgot to load film in the camera and the other one had such a good time that he didn't take any pictures, and as a result, we have one picture of our wedding."

The 'Elizabeth' star described the snap as "a blurry picture of the two of us getting in the car".

She went on to add: "I was so sad and so upset and I wept at the time that we didn't have any pictures, but in the end I'm kind of quite pleased that I don't have any pictures because I then constantly try and recall the evening."

The couple are still together 27 years later and are parents to three sons, Dashiell, 23, Roman, 20, and Ignatius, 17, and a daughter Edith, 10.

Cate previously revealed Andrew proposed to her after less than a month of dating, but she was ready to say yes after just three days.

During an appearance on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show', she said: "He turned to me - we were in bed, as you are after three days - and he said, ‘Cate ... '

"I thought: 'S***. He’s going to ask me to marry him and I’m going to have to say yes'. And then he said: 'I’m hungry. Do you want to go get something to eat?'"

Cate went on to say: "He asked me [to marry him] after about 21 days and I said yes.

"I cooked him the worst meal. I somehow decided that to stuff a trout with walnuts and goat cheese would be a good idea. He ate it, then he asked me to marry him, so clearly he was hallucinating."
