Catalans Dragons suffer triple injury blow ahead of Castleford Tigers' visit

Catalans Dragons are set to be without three players after they all suffered injuries in their defeat to Leeds Rhinos. Steve McNamara's side conceded 24 unanswered points, going down 32-22 to Leeds Rhinos.

It was a costly defeat, not only because it halted their excellent start but in terms of personnel, too. Tyrone May looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up an ankle injury that saw him helped from the field. And to make matters worse, McNamara confirmed that influential captain Benjamin Garcia and fellow forward Mickael Goudemand both sustained head injuries that will see them miss next week's clash with Castleford Tigers.

McNamara refused to use the injuries as an excuse for his side's second-half collapse and was instead focused on pointing out where his side fell short.

“We were clearly the second best team in the second half,” said McNamara. “I could tell from the first tackle of the second half that we had lost momentum, and it snowballed from there.

“Our attacking was really poor, we lost speed in the ruck, and Leeds were a lot more direct and put us on the back foot. The game became too quick for us and Leeds did a good job at exposing it.”

He continued: “The thing that is really important for us now is our reaction next week. Teams go through that and it’s part and parcel of the game. In previous weeks we have had things go our way and that’s sport, we’ve got to roll with it and the important thing is that response next week.”

In better news for Les Dracs, McNamara confirmed Sam Tomkins, Siosiua Taukeiaho and Romain Navarrete were all close to making their returns to the field following injury.
