Casualty star says it was ‘killing him' keeping his return to BBC show a secret

Casualty star Charles Venn has detailed his struggle to keep his return to the BBC medical-drama a secret. The actor, who has played Jacob Masters since 2015, made a shock comeback during Saturday’s, April 8 episode.

Commenting on his return on social media, Charles said: “It was killing me not being able to tell you all, but I am so glad it’s now out of the bag.” Jacob’s return to Casualty comes just two weeks after the character left the hospital after his role as clinical nurse manager became ‘untenable’.

Charles added, thanking his fans: “You guys are amazing supporters of this show and the love you’ve shown the show, Jacob & myself has been overwhelming, thank you!!! Let the games begin.” His character has become a paramedic.

Following his return to Casualty, Charles was met with several supportive comments. “Yayyyyy.... been great to see you on the screen in a new role,” wrote one person.

A second echoed: “Yes Charles!! So glad you haven’t left. You’ll always be one of my faves!” And a third said: “I had a feeling you hadn’t left totally as your departure was so muted.”

Another person commented: “I actually cried but happy you still around.you look great in uniform.” And a further said: “Phew. We lost too many characters in one go. Glad you are sticking around.”

Viewers were convinced that Charles had become the second actor to leave Casualty in recent weeks. His apparent departure came following the exit of Amanda Henderson, who played Robyn Miller - read an interview with Amanda about her character’s shock death here.
