Organisers are pushing ahead with this year’s Castle Douglas Soap Box Derby.
The event is returning for the first time since its successful debut in 2019 with the coronavirus pandemic having ruined plans to hold it in recent years.
It will take place on Sunday, July 9 with home made racers taking on a special course in King Street.
One of the organisers, Matt Mckerlie, said: “We have 14 teams just now. We had 23 in the first year so we’re still a bit low in numbers but we’re going to run with it – we’re too committed not to.
“Once we know what numbers we’ve got, we might do a knock-out round.
“We have a team of 25 people now, which is more hands to help out – there were only four or five of us the first time.
“We’ve changed the track a wee bit and moved higher up the street to start at the bus stop and finish around the post office.
“We’ll have stalls in the street and a fairground at the bottom – the road closure is expensive so we want to maximise the space.
