Castle Douglas is gearing up to host another national cycling event on Sunday.
Around 300 competitors are expected for round six of the Scottish Cyclocross Series (SCX).
Lochside Caravan Park will be the venue for the action which combines road cycling, mountain biking and steeplechase.
It is the first time the town has landed the event and constitutes another boost to its growing reputation as a major cycling events hub.
Castle Douglas Development Forum (CDDF), Event Scotland, the council and bike design company Albannach are jointly backing the race day.
Event co-organiser, Castle Douglas man and Albannach founder Jim Cameron, said: “I have organised over ten cyclocross race events in and around Glasgow.
“So I’m really excited to bring the Scottish Cyclocross Series to the town I now call home for the first time – and it will be taking place right across the road from my house.
“Cyclocross is an incredibly family friendly and safe format of competitive cycle racing.
“The course is completely traffic free, and the entire lap is edge marked with the racers supported by event commissaries and marshals along the way.
“Cyclocross races live on energy and spectacle so I would encourage the local community to come along on the day, ring a cowbell, bang a drum to make as much noise as possible to support the racers.”
CDDF events organiser Amanda Burney said: “This is set to be a spectacular day with exciting racing, amazing atmosphere and tasty food and beverages for everyone.
“Cyclocross is a national sport and it’s the first time ever Castle Douglas is hosting one of the rounds for the Scottish Cyclocross Series. We are incredibly lucky to be able to host it here as it’s a real attraction. “
