Patna: Caste Census report of Bihar was released on Monday which was described as historic by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who said the crucial report was released on pious day of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Kumar in his tweet said the caste census report has been released and he would soon convene all party meeting to discuss the issue. Altogether 9 parties in Assembly had supported the resolution for caste census which was unanimously passed in both in Assembly and Bihar Legislative Council.
According to report, Bihar has 36% Extremely Backward Class (EBC) population while Other Backward Class (OBC) population is 27.13%.
As per caste census report released, population of Backward Classes is 3,54,63,936 which is 27.12 percent of total population of 13.07 crores of Bihar.
Similarly, population of Extremely Backward Classes(EBCs) is 4,70,80,514 which is 36.01 percent of the total population. Population of Scheduled Castes is 2,56,89,820, which is 19.65 percent of the total population while population of Scheduled Tributes (STs) is 21,99,361 which is 1.68 percent of total population of the state.Population of unreserved category is 2,02,91,679 which is 15.52 percent of total population of the state.
The Bihar Government on October 2 released a report on the caste-based survey it had conducted amid a case pending in the Supreme Court on the validity of such a survey. (Agencies)
