Andhra Pradesh Minister for Revenue Dharmana Prasada Rao has directed the district administration to complete the caste census by the end of this month as the data gathered will play a vital role in designing and implementing the government’s policies in a systematic way.
“The caste census had earlier been undertaken during the British regime. It is now being done by the YSRCP government,” Mr. Prasada Rao told The Hindu.
“Accurate data will help the government know the socioeconomic conditions of the communities. That is why, it has been accorded top priority. The Sachivalayam staff and volunteers will have to explain the benefits of the survey to the people. The people need to cooperate with the survey teams in providing all details, including income sources, properties, caste and sub caste,” the Minister said.
Mr. Prasada Rao said he had directed all the revenue officials to help the secretariat staff and volunteers in documenting the details collected during the door-to-door survey.
He said that the government’s initiative would improve the living standards of the Backward Classes, SCs and STs in the State.
