Cast of The Boys season 4 as Jeffrey Dean Morgan joins show in mysterious new role

The Boys has quickly become one of Amazon Prime Video’s biggest TV shows, with the series sweeping social media with its absurdist actions and outlandish plotlines.

The show is both hilarious and brutally serious, a seemingly perfect antidote to the diminishing returns of Marvel and DC.

It’s no surprise then that Amazon has wasted no time in renewing the series for a fourth season, and it's filming right now in Canada.

Not only is the usual cohort of familiar faces returning, but another major star is joining the team.

It comes after news broke of a spin-off series, Gen V, which will concentrate on super-powered teenagers growing up in a world dominated by Vought’s twisted consumerism.

The cast of The Boys is expanding rapidly, with the show confirming two new cast members earlier this month.

Orange Is The New Black’s Susan Heyward and Blair Witch’s Valorie Curry are joining the show as Sister Sage and Firecracker respectively.

Showrunner Eric Kripke wrote on Twitter : “These new Supes are some of the best & craziest ever written for #TheBoys.

“You are going to love them. And by love, I mean be absolutely horrified & a tiny bit nauseous.”

Cameron Corvetti is also returning as Ryan, now promoted to a recurring role which will once again see him pulled between his two dads, Butcher and Homelander.

Speaking of which, all the main cast are returning, including Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Antony Starr as Homelander, Erin Moriarty as Annie January, Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell and Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko.

Also returning is Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, Jessie T Usher as A-Train, Chace Crawford as The Deep and Claudia Doumit as Victoria Neuman.

Unconfirmed stars returning are Giancarlo Esposito as Stan Edgar, Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve and Jensen Ackles Soldier Boy, though all their story arcs remain open for further development.

The biggest new name is Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who has been confirmed for the cast in season 4.

He is best known for playing the villainous Negan in The Walking Dead, which he is returning to in the upcoming spin-off Dead City.

It isn’t know who he is playing, though for years there has been fan-castings for him as Tek Knight from the comics.

This character is a strange crossover of Iron Man and Batman, with an unsettling sex addiction that ultimately becomes his undoing on the page.

What is the release date of The Boys season 4?

Homelander will return in The Boys season 4 (Amazon Prime)

A release date has not been confirmed for The Boys season four, but fans shouldn’t have to worry about a long wait.

It will likely premiere in the summer of 2023, as the show is already filming now.

In fact, the showrunners have unveiled the title of the premiere episode: Department of Dirty Tricks.

The plot is completely unknown, though it will inevitably pick up where season 3 left off.

Homelander appears to be rapidly moving into the world of politics, though more on the dictator end of the spectrum.

The season 3 finale saw him kill a protestor in cold blood, to the applause of his followers, and much to his own surprise.

He has Ryan at his side, introducing him to the world as his son.

Drunk on power and increasingly threatened after his battle with Soldier Boy, America’s (least) favourite superhero may finally snap.
