Sheepdog Casper, killer of eight coyotes, nominated for Farm Dog of the Year

A heroic sheepdog who killed eight coyotes as he defended his flock of sheep from attack has been nominated for Farm Dog of the Year.

Casper, a Great Pyrenees from Decatur, Georgia, performed the remarkable feat a year ago and was grieviously wounded during the fight but has since recovered.

He is among the final nominees for the dog contest run by the American Farm Bureau Federation. If he wins, he will receive a year’s worth of Purina dogfood as well as a $5,000 cash prize.

Voters can also cast a ballot for Casper to win the People’s Choice Award, which comes with a $1,000 prize.

“There are a lot of deserving dogs. It’s an honor for him just to be nominated,” John Wierwille, Casper’s owner, told Atlanta News First.
