Casemiro lauded by teammates as three Manchester United players set for return to action

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines on Monday, January 2.

Casemiro praised by three United teammates after Wolves win

Antony, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia all singled out Manchester United teammate Casemiro for praise following the New Year's Eve victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

After successful individual performances at the World Cup, Casemiro returned as a man in-form and has even showed that there is more to his game than just playing defensive midfield. In the Carabao Cup against Burnley, the Brazilian filled in at centre-back due to the Reds struggling with defensive absentees. With Shaw moving into that gap against Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers, Casemiro was able to continue shining in midfield.

Running the show against the two relegation threatened sides, Casemiro showed how crucial he now is to the Old Trafford outfit. His fan favourite status at United has earned him plenty of praise from outsiders and that love is also being shared by a trio of his teammates at the Theatre of Dreams.

On New Year's Day, Casemiro posted a picture of himself celebrating victory at Molineux to Instagram with the caption: "A good way to end the year." Quick to shower their teammate with the praise he deserves, Antony replied: "You are badass brother."

Three Man United players could return vs Bournemouth

Diogo Dalot and Lisandro Martinez could return to the Manchester United squad for their first Premier League game of the year at home to Bournemouth.

Dalot has missed the last three games due to a hamstring injury he sustained in Portugal's World Cup quarter-final defeat to Morocco but he started training last week. Martinez, absent for the wins over Burnley, Nottingham Forest and Wolves through his involvement in Argentina's triumph in Qatar, has also had multiple training sessions.

Scott McTominay recovered from illness to train prior to the Wolves match on New Year's Eve and could also return to the matchday squad on Tuesday.

"We have to see. Both were training yesterday and today," Erik ten Hag said of Martinez and McTominay. "I’m quite optimistic that they can both return to the squad. Diogo Dalot also made good progress. We don’t want to take risks with anyone because we know there are many games to come and we need a full squad to cover all the games."
