The Shahinayathgunj police on Tuesday booked Goshamahal legislator T. Raja Singh for allegedly making provocative communal speeches during the Rama Navami celebrations on Sunday.
The police invoked Sections 153A – promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, 295A – deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings, 504 and 505 – intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.
Police said the sections were applied on Tuesday after thorough examination of audio and video footage collected during the Rama Navami shoba yatra and related public addresses that went on till late on Sunday.
On the other hand, Sultan Bazar police also booked cases for violating conditions of permission issued for the celebrations against Mr. Raja Singh and Bhagyanagar Sriram Navami Utsava Samithi president Bhagwanth Rao.
The police stated that Mr. Raja Singh and Mr. Rao along with their followers in two separate tusker vehicles created nuisance by playing DJ audio, along with other tuskers obstructed free flow of traffic and caused inconvenience to general public.
“Around 11 p.m. MLA Raja Singh addressed a huge public gathering at Hanuman Vyamashala ground by disturbing public peace and tranquillity in the locality, and the meeting concluded around 11.30 p.m.,” it stated.
