Carter-Vickers injury addressed by Rodgers ahead of Celtic vs Rangers

Brendan Rodgers has addressed Celtic's injury concern over Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The 25-year-old was substituted during the champions' 3-0 victory over Dundee this afternoon.

The United States international went down while appearing to clutch his hamstring just prior to the hour-mark of the game. He has previously struggled with an injury in the same area earlier this year.

He walked off the field as Stephen Welsh was sent on as his replacement.

With Rangers next up for Celtic at Parkhead, there are obvious concerns about the defender missing the encounter.

However, it appears that the early diagnosis is that the injury could have been a lot worse.

Rodgers told Sky Sports: "Thankfully his hamstring hasn't gone, but he just felt a little bit tight. We've said to him before that if he feels anything, it's better letting us know.

"So he just started to tighten up a little bit, we were able to take him off, and Stephen Welsh comes in and was excellent."

Asked directly if Carter-Vickers would be fine to face Rangers and if he knew any other information about the knock, the Irishman added: "Nothing and anything. I don't know, the medical team will assess him and see where we're at in the coming days."

Should the American miss the weekend's match then Welsh, Maik Nawrocki and Gustag Lagerbielke will be in line to start.

Goals from Paulo Bernardo and Mikey Johnston sealed the comfortable victory for the Hoops at Dens Park on Boxing Day.

Rodgers was thrilled with the effort and application he saw from his team.

"You come up here on Christmas night and you come away from your family," he explained. "I thought from the very first whistle, the mentality from the team was excellent.

"We could've been in front by half time. I think anything Dundee had was from us being a little bit loose at times.

"Overall, we created many chances and we kept a clean sheet. the attitude and energy of the team was very good."
