The Los Angeles Rams shook up their quarterback room during their bye week, cutting Brett Rypien and Dresser Winn after signing Carson Wentz to back up Matthew Stafford. Fortunately, there’s hope Stafford can play in Week 11 after the Rams return from their break, but they’ll have Wentz available if not.
Wentz had been a free agent since the Commanders cut him in January but he tried to land with the Jets recently. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Wentz’s camp reached out to the Jets to gauge their interest following their loss to the Chargers on Monday night. The Jets never offered him a contract, though, sticking by Zach Wilson.

Wentz had been on the Jets’ short list of potential free-agent QBs since they lost Aaron Rodgers to a torn Achilles in Week 1, per sources. The thinking was if the team lost faith in Wilson, it could sign Wentz to be an option to start.
The Rams aren’t paying Wentz much this year, giving him a signing bonus of $150,000 and a base salary of $1.165 million, which is prorated for only half the season. In total, the Rams will pay Wentz $732,500 if he’s on the roster for the remainder of the year.
The Jets have struggled with Wilson at quarterback since Aaron Rodgers went down, but Robert Saleh and the front office have stuck by him despite his poor play.
