Carson Beck Announces Commitment to Miami Hurricanes for 2025

Carson Beck has announced his commitment to Miami for the 2025 college football season after deciding to not enter the NFL Draft.

Carson Beck has found his new home.

The former Georgia quarterback announced Friday that he’s transferring to Miami for the 2025 season, using his final year of eligibility. Initially declaring for the NFL Draft, Beck had a change of heart, entering the transfer portal just a day earlier. His decision comes after a 2024 season marred by challenges, including a season-ending elbow injury during Georgia’s SEC Championship win over Texas. The injury occurred late in the first half when Beck was hit attempting a deep throw. He returned briefly to hand off the ball near the goal line but missed Georgia’s Sugar Bowl loss to Notre Dame.

Gunner Stockton stepped in for Beck and is set to compete for Georgia’s starting role in 2025, alongside Ryan Puglisi. Beck, however, will look to revive his career in Miami.

A two-year starter, Beck shone in 2023, throwing for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just six interceptions. But 2024 proved more difficult, with Georgia’s receiving corps depleted after losing Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey to the NFL. Beck’s numbers dipped to 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns, while his interception total doubled to 12.

Now, Carson Beck seeks a fresh start with the Hurricanes, aiming to reclaim his spot among college football’s elite quarterbacks. As of now, no NIL number has been announced, but it’s expected it will be one of the highest of all time.

Beck Still Has to Recover From Surgery

Carson Beck’s path took an unexpected turn when he suffered a UCL injury in Georgia’s SEC Championship win against Texas. Now bound for Miami, Beck’s spring participation is in question, as his recovery likely sidelines him from practices. This uncertainty seems to have factored heavily into his decision to stay in college rather than declare for the NFL Draft. At Miami, Beck can capitalize on NIL opportunities in 2025 while also positioning himself as a stronger prospect for the 2026 draft.

It’s a strategy reminiscent of Cam Ward’s journey. Ward declared for the NFL Draft after stints at Washington State and FCS Incarnate Word but later pivoted, entering the transfer portal and landing at Miami. In 2024, Ward flourished, becoming a Heisman finalist and playing his way into potential first-overall consideration in the upcoming draft.

For Carson Beck, replicating Ward’s success will be challenging, especially if his spring reps are limited. However, the ACC remains wide open in 2025, presenting Beck with an opportunity to rewrite his narrative. A strong showing could bolster his draft stock, overcoming the shadow of a down 2024 season and the injury that altered his path. The Hurricanes are betting on Beck’s talent—and so is he.
