Cars were torched outside the home of a firefighter who was badly hurt in a gang attack.
The vehicles were set ablaze shortly before Scott Kennedy was due to give evidence in a court case.
Terrifying footage showing a Mercedes engulfed in flames. A Ford Kia also caught fire and a BMW was destroyed in a second attack.
Last week, at Hamilton Sheriff Court, a 17-year-old avoided jail after admitting he assaulted Scott, 53, in Motherwell, on August 22, 2021.
The victim was confronted by a gang as he and his wife walked home late at night. He was punched repeatedly and needed surgery for facial injuries. He has been left with permanent numbness in his forehead.
Scott’s Mercedes was torched on November 5, a month before he was due to appear as a witness. In the end, his evidence was not required as the accused changed his plea to guilty.
Police said yesterday: “Inquiries remain ongoing.”
Sheriff Colin Dunipace described the attack on Scott as “sickening, vicious and cowardly” and said only the accused’s age had saved him from a “significant” custodial sentence.
The youth was given 18 months’ supervision, electronically tagged for six months and ordered to do 240 hours of unpaid community work.
He must also pay Scott £1000 in compensation.
