Cars damaged and windscreens smashed during months of vandalism

A man is considering moving house after a string of vandalism attacks in the area over the past three months.

Rudy Muhammed said he feels unsafe and is considering leaving his home in Newsham Park following a third incident of car vandalism within three months. Originally from Syria, Rudy moved to Kensington with his wife, before settling in Newsham Park five years ago.

He said he has never experienced this level of crime in the area before but believes the damage is being done "just for the sake of it". He told the ECHO: “To be honest, this kind of thing is not common. My area is quiet. This is totally new, it's never happened like this before.

“They must be doing this just for the fun of it.”

According to Rudy, the attacks started three months ago when almost five cars were reported to be damaged in one incident. The 36-year-old said Merseyside Police sent out a warning letter to all residents, advising them to take precautions and keep an eye on their vehicles.

But despite this, the attacks have continued and have become increasingly frequent, leaving Rudy and his neighbours "shocked" by the situation.

He said: "All the neighbours are so shocked by this. But there's no CCTV to check on who's doing this.”

In the most recent attack, Rudy said he witnessed no damage to any cars during his evening walk with his dog but later found out multiple cars had been vandalised within hours of his return home.

Rudy said he was fortunate to have parked his car further down the road, so it was not damaged in the attack. However, he is now considering moving house as he fears that he and his wife may become targets in the future.

He continued: “To be honest, after all this stuff, I'm thinking of moving again. You just never know. It could be my car or my house next.”

Rudy filed a police report yesterday morning, but is still awaiting a response from Merseyside Police. A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that we received reports of suspicious circumstances to three cars in Newsham Park in the early hours of yesterday morning, Thursday 6 July.

"We received two reports from members of the public that three cars, Fiat Punto, Renault Megane and a Vauxhall Astra, parked on Holland Street appeared damaged.

"There is no suggestion any crime has occurred at this stage, however we have been aware and enquiries are being conducted by local policing officers.

"If you have any information on this incident please contact our social media desk on Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ with any information, with reference 23000606432."
