Pedestrians can walk from O'Connell Street to Capel Street on traffic free streets from today.
This was made possible by a traffic ban on the small section of Mary Street which still facilitated traffic. The small stretch of the street, which runs from Wolfe Tone Street to Jervis Lane Upper, will still allow deliveries between 6am and 11am.
Dublin City Council said the changes "will provide more space for pedestrians and reduce vehicles in the local street network". The pedestrianisation is a part of the plan to have a traffic free route from O'Connell Street to Capel Street and onto the planned College Green Plaza.

Buses, taxis and cars will be banned from College Green which will create a public space that will run from the gates of Trinity to the junction at Dame Street and South Great George's Street. It estimated the plans to rollout the new plaza will not begin until 2024.
However, the National Transport Authority previously the warned the plans may be further delayed by bus driver shortages.
