Carol Vorderman teases Countdown return as she tells fans she's got a new job

Carol Vorderman could be winging her way back to Countdown after teasing fans she had a new job.

The presenter, 61, was a regular fixture on the Channel 4 show from 1982 to 2008, which she co-hosted with Richard Whiteley.

The Weakest Link star Anne Robinson, 77, got the gig in 2021 only to quit last month to spend more time with her grandchildren.

And now mum-of-two Carol has told fans she's getting ready for a new adventure.

Sharing a pic of her in the back of a car wearing a turquoise blouse and designer sunglasses, she said: "On my way to work......can't wait to tell you what it is....Next week..

"This bird has decided to get back into work instead of hiding away for the last however many years........yup....expect trouble."

Her cheeky post sent fans into frenzy with many speculating Countdown is on the cards.

One said: "I am guessing you're returning to Countdown."

Another posted: "Oooh on your way back to the Countdown studio?"

While another cheekily suggested: "Wishful think you're starting a OnlyFans page."

Countdown bosses are said to be 'desperate' for the shapely star to return following the news that Ann e had quit the show.

Amid speculation Carol would help boost ratings, the presenter broke her silence last month and tweeted: "Thank you to all of you saying such lovely things about a possibility of me returning to Countdown.

"You're very kind & it would be an honour but I want to wish whoever is the lucky human to be the new host all the love and 9 letter words in the world #CountWell#HappyDays."

However an insider told The Sun that Channel 4 bosses know how popular Carol is with fans and will do everything they can to secure the star.

They said: "Carol is such a big part of Countdown and Channel 4 know how much everyone loves her.

"Bosses would love her to come back as the main host, her Countdown journey would come full circle. It would be perfect."

Carol got the gig on the show after her mum saw a newspaper advertisement asking for "a woman with good mathematical skills" to appear as co-host on a quiz show.

She submitted an application on behalf of her daughter, who was just 21 at the time.

The Mirror has contacted Channel 4 for comment.
