Carol Vorderman slams 'appalling lying' government after GMB interview

Carol Vorderman said she is "embarrassed" for Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab amid claims of inappropriate behaviour from disgraced MP Chris Pincher.

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson claims he was unaware of formal complaints against Mr Pincher. However, former top civil servant Simon McDonald has today (Tuesday) issued a letter saying Downing Street's line that the Prime Minister did not know about the complaints is untrue.

After announcing the news on Good Morning Britain, hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls were joined by Mr Raab to discuss the contents of Mr McDonald's letter.

Fans of the show said Susanna Reid had Mr Raab "squirming", as she grilled him on what was unfolding. Susanna asked: "How does somebody who is found guilty by an internal investigation of inappropriate behaviour, how does that somebody, Chris Pincher in this case... get to be Deputy Chief Whip with responsibility for welfare?"

Mr Raab said that no disciplinary action had been taken, but Susanna said: "An internal investigation upheld the complaint". Mr Raab said Susanna was "wrong about what happened".

The two went back and forth as Susanna referred to Mr Pincher as being "guilty", as the complaint of inappropriate behaviour was upheld. But Mr Raab said the word guilty was "loaded" and that "no formal disciplinary action was taken".

They agreed they would "let the viewers at home decide" what they thought.

Reacting to the interview, Carol Vorderman hit out at the UK Government. In a tweet, the TV star said: "Watching @DominicRaab , the Deputy Prime Minister of this appalling lying government, being taken apart on @gmb about the lies lies lies from Number 10 about Chris Pincher. I'm embarrassed for him. Raab needs to drop defending Johnson or his own career is done IMHO".

Those watching the show responded quickly. Taking to Twitter, Roy Andrew said: "Dominic Raab [is] malfunctioning on live TV". Nicky Kinge said: "On the money with your interrogation of Dominic Raab this morning Susanna", while Jessica said: "Susanna has DR squirming in his seat".
