Carol Vorderman has showed her support to Anne Robinson after the TV star announced she was quitting Countdown.
The news emerged on Monday evening that Anne, 77, would be stepping away from the much-loved Channel 4 show after just one year in the hot seat.
Robinson, who recorded 265 episodes of the show, said of her decision to quit: "I've had a blast hosting this wonderful show. And I stayed longer than I signed up for. Now it is time for an older woman to take the reins.
"I hope too I've encouraged TV bosses to realise that not all women at the wrong end of their seventies are in care homes playing bingo and watching conjuring tricks," she continued.
"In fact the genius of Countdown is that it's a brilliant way to keep the brain exercised. I run 5k most days of the week.
"And I can now do an anagram at twice the speed I could this time last year.
"But I have grandchildren, a large garden and a home in New York, all deserving more of my attention," Robinson added.
Vorderman, 61, was quick to comment on the news and retweeted an article and wrote alongside it: "Awwwww.....lovely Countdown Hope you enjoyed it immensely Anne," followed by a couple of red heart emojis.
The mother-of-two is no stranger to the daytime quiz show as she appeared on it from 1982 until 2008.
Vorderman's mother noticed a newspaper advertisement asking for "a woman with good mathematical skills" to appear as co-host on a quiz show and submitted an application on behalf of her daughter, who was just 21-years-old at the time.
Vorderman recorded her last Countdown show on November 13, 2008, which was broadcast on December 12, 2008.
