Who is Carol Vorderman?

Carol Vorderman is a TV presenter and media personality. Her early career was spent in civil engineering and in management, before, at the age of 21, she landed the role of co-presenter of Countdown thanks to her arithmetic skills.

She appeared on the show for 26 years before quitting in 2008 after a dispute with Channel 4, which broadcasts the game show, over pay.

Her other regular TV work has included Loose Women, the Pride of Britain Awards, and Lorraine. She also competed in the second series of Strictly Come Dancing, finishing second-last, and the 16th series of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, finishing eighth.

Her most recent appearances have centred around more game shows, the genre for which she made her name. She was a celebrity expert on Michael McIntyre's The Wheel on BBC One and then a contestant on Beat the Chasers on ITV.

How old is Carol Vorderman?

Carol Vorderman was born on December 24, 1960, making her 61 at the time of writing. She was born in Bedford to a Welsh mother and a Dutch father, but her parents split soon after her birth. Her mum took the family back to her hometown of Prestatyn in Wales, where she grew up.

She later became one of the youngest women to attend the University of Cambridge, where she was admitted aged 17 to study engineering. However she left with a third-class degree.

She was awarded an MBE to services to broadcasting in 2000.

What is Carol Vorderman's net worth?

According to Spear's Magazine, Carol Vorderman has a net worth of £18 million. The magazine said she was earning some £5 million per year from her job on Countdown by the time she stood down, while she's also made money from selling books, video games, and, most recently, her Somerset mansion, Sloblock Hall, which was on the market for £2.6 million and was sold in December 2021.

According to reports she still has her flat in Clifton, but she now spends much of her time travelling in her converted van.

Has Carol Vorderman had cosmetic surgery?

Vorderman has always dazzled audiences with her good looks, but in recent years speculation has continued to mount that she has undergone cosmetic surgery. In 2012, she admitted she wanted “a little rejuvenation” to “fix the things that need fixing", but said she would be "frightened of a full facelift". She later admitted to having had Botox once a year since she turned 50.

In 2019, when fans speculated she'd had more work done, Vorderman denied doing so, telling MailOnline: "I’ve always had a huge arse."

She continued: "I promise I haven’t had bottom implants. It’s the same old bottom. In my family, loads of us have it: the Vorderman Arse. My daughter Katie has it. My nephew has it. We’re all sticky-out-bottom people."

However, cosmetic surgery expert Sadaf Jaffari told the Sun: “Carol dresses youthfully and looks remarkable. But as well as Botox, I can see clear suggestions of nose jobs, tucks, fillers and boob jobs.”

Vorderman denied getting a nose job done, saying it looks different because she fell and broke her nose. She also denied having ever had a nip or tuck, explaining that she owes her figure to plenty of exercise - including from walking up the stairs to her fourth-floor Clifton flat.
