Carol Vorderman reminisces over Countdown days as she dances to iconic theme tune

Carol Vorderman rolled back the years as she danced in front of the iconic Countdown clock to the Channel 4 show's theme tune.

Carol burst onto our TV screens as a fresh-faced 21-year-old when the famous show first aired in 1982, initially alongside a team of five "vital statisticians" including long-time host Richard Whiteley.

She reminisced about the good ol' days on Wednesday when she returned to Channel 4 headquarters and was reunited with the famous Countdown clock.

The 62-year-old looked glamourous as she posed for photos, wearing a long sleeved leopard print top and figure-hugging high waisted leather leggings and black boots.

She was beaming as she danced to the 30-second countdown, something she admitted she had done "tens of thousands of times over the years".

Carol shared the photos and videos on Instagram for her 313,000 followers, writing: "CHANNEL 4 GREETING. Awwwww look what greeted me at @channel4 HQ this morning with a big smile on its clock face...... awwwww.

"Happy days indeed. I've danced to that music tens of thousands of times over the years.....lols."

Her fans were equally as thrilled as they flocked to the comments section.

One person wrote: "This brings back memories from my childhood of watching you on Countdown!"

A second follower commented: "I still sing that tune in my head whenever there is 30 seconds left on the microwave," while a third added: "Where is this? I need to have a go on that clock right now…"

Another person queried: "Would you consider returning to Countdown again, even if as a guest on dictionary corner?"

Carol and Richard became the staple of the show throughout the 80s and 90s as the co-hosting team was reduced to just them two, with the former taking on the responsibility for the numbers game and the handling of the letters.

Her success on the show led to Carol allegedly becoming one of the highest-paid women in the country as the show's popularity continued to grow.

Richard died in June 2005 and she was asked if she wanted to fill the vacant main presenter role, but Carol declined. Des Lynam replaced him in October of the same year before being succeeded by Des O'Connor in January 2007.

On July 25, 2008, after 26 years on the show since its inception, Carol announced she was leaving the show and was replaced by current co-host Rachel Riley.
