Carol Vorderman has been showered with praise after she slammed an LBC presenter for his controversial comments about parents living in poverty.
Nick Ferrari told his listeners that people shouldn't become parents if they can't afford to buy their child a toothbrush. He said: "If you are a mum and, or a dad, and you haven’t got money to buy your child a toothbrush, you should never have become a parent in the first place.”
The former Countdown star, who has a flat in Clifton, was quick to challenge his statement. She posted on social media: “I grew up in poverty and language like this is humiliating. My mum (three kids and five part-time jobs) could only afford one tub of hot water per week. Sunday night a few inches of hot water in the bath and we’d take it in turns to wash quickly. No money for heating/clothes but she was a great mum.”

Dozens of fans responded to her post, with one writing: "Fair play she gone up in my eyes. What a lovely lady no airs no graces not ashamed of her background. And more so she stands up for what's right in this country go on gal. And not afraid to speak out."
Another said: "Money does not make a great mum. My mum and dad had very little money but between them there was lots of love and we never felt we were missing out."

"She's right, its about loving your child unconditionally teaching them right and wrong, being there and giving them your best. It's not about what you can offer with money," another follower said.
