Carol Vorderman confirms Lorraine Kelly return date after she was forced off ITV show

Carol Vorderman appears to have confirmed when Lorraine Kelly will return to her ITV show after she was forced to take a break. The former Countdown star has been hosting Lorraine's self-titled ITV show all this week.

She even left Susanna Reid doing a double-take as she arrived for work on Good Morning Britain on Monday to see Carol in the corridor in the early hours.

But during her first glimpse to viewers in her stand-in role, Carol explained that she had been drafted in to replace Lorraine after the Scottish TV star tested positive for Covid.

"Sadly, Lorraine has caught the dreaded you know what and I'm sitting in here for a few days which I'm delighted to do," Carol explained. "But we are wishing her a speedy recovery."

Since then she has been offering daily updates on Lorraine, 62, and on Thursday morning's show (July 14), the 61-year-old presenter said: "I'm still here filling in for Lorraine today.

"She's feeling a lot better thank goodness and is hoping to be back in her chair where she belongs on Monday. I'm looking forward to that."

Lorraine thanked Carol for standing in for her earlier this week. She said: "Well the Covid has finally got me and I tested positive at the weekend. Thanks to the vaccine it’s not too bad and I hope to be back at work very soon. Huge thanks to @carolvorders who will be hosting @lorraine until I’m back."

She also shared a photo to Instagram of her beloved dog, Angus, and her daughter Rosie's pup Ruby. "Th e dreaded Covid has finally caught up with me. I am so thankful to the scientists who developed the vaccine! Being looked after by @rosiekellysmith @rubyisasausage and @steveandangussmith - thanks to @carolvorders for hosting @lorraine until I’m back ! #covid_19," she wrote alongside the sweet snap.

Earlier this week, Lorraine viewers were distracted by Carol thanks to her laugh. Early into the show, the host was left in stitches while chatting to Dr Amir Khan. The GP had to briefly pause his segment which he was conducting via video link from his surgery in Leeds. That's because his mum was giving him a ring, with Amir admitting she always calls him when she sees him on the TV. Aww!

Viewers were, however, as already mentioned, distracted by Carol's laugh. @Di2409 asked: "Is that laugh for real? #lorraine." @LowMoorCottages wrote: "Carol Vorderman’ laugh is hilarious #lorraine." But @R3TRO8OY complained: "Carol Vorderman has just beaten Jimmy Carr for the title of ‘Worlds most irritating Laugh’ #lorraine."
