Countdown legend Carol Vorderman has hit out at Jeremy Clarkson once again following the horrific comments he made about the Duchess of Sussex. In a story published in The Sun on Friday, December 16, the former Top Gear host said he hated Meghan on a 'cellular level' and detailed a fantasy of his which would see the royal paraded through the streets naked while excrement is hurled at her.
The publication of the column has infuriated politicians, celebrities and members of the public alike, with many slamming Clarkson for his views on the Duchess of Sussex. Clarkson acknowledged the outrage in a tweet posted on Monday, which some have accused of being 'sarcastic', in which he claimed the the description of his 'dream' about Meghan in his column was a 'clumsy reference to a scene in Game of Thrones'.
A few hours after Clarkson posted the tweet, Scottish MP John Nicolson shared a letter he had sent to the chief executive of ITV, Dame Carolyn McCall, on social media. In the letter, Nicolson, who is a journalist, said that while he has 'consistently defended freedom of the press', Clarkson had 'crossed a line'.

Nicolson, whose seat is Ochil and South Perthshire, wrote: "Using the names of the democratically elected First Minister of Scotland and the Duchess of Sussex alongside that of a serial killer is grotesque. Expressing a scatological, misogynistic fantasy that Meghan Markle might be assaulted with faeces is an insight into a disturbed mind, openly expressing violent hate speech.
"I do not believe that Mr Clarkson should appear on our television screens again. It would be especially inappropriate for him to be used as a presenter by any Public Service Broadcaster."
Nicolson went on to describe the 'significant public indignation' at Clarkson's column, and claimed that 6,000 complaints had been made about the column to Ipso since last Friday. The MP received a considerable amount of support for his letter on social media, with Carol Vorderman grouping Clarkson in with a bunch of 'sad souls'.
The Clifton resident tweeted in response to Nicolson's letter: "The Clarkson Effect. I've received a lot of abuse obvs, but it's like watching the last death throes of a dinosaur age.
"Sad souls who are angry at new thought, at equality, at kindness. BUT this chapter has also brought the calm, normally silent, people together. We fight on."
Carol has expressed her disagreement towards Clarkson's column, which has since been unpublished by The Sun at the request of Clarkson, and threw support behind his daughter, Emily, at the weekend after she spoke out against her dad. Emily made it clear that she 'stands against everything that [her] dad wrote about Meghan Markle' and would continue to support those 'targeted with online hatred'.
