Carol McGiffin has hit out at Phillip Schofield and the 'institution' of This Morning following her decision to quit Loose Women.
The former ITV star, 63, revealed last week that she was not returning to the Loose Women panel because she found that the show has become far too 'woke' for her and she feels vilified when sharing her honest opinion with her fellow panellists which includes Ruth Langsford, Coleen Nolan, and Linda Robson.
After hitting out at Loose Women, Carol has now taken aim at This Morning host Phillip, 61, who has been caught up in the endless drama as rumours circulate that he and co-host Holly Willoughby have fallen out after years of a solid friendship.
Addressing the drama and rumours, Carol said that although she had never worked too closely with Phillip, she had always found him 'rude' and 'sarcastic' and 'not overly friendly'.
The former ITV star went on to insist that both Phillip and Holly could be replaced in a heartbeat and that perhaps it's time that both the presenters step down and allow other people to host the flagship daytime show.
Speaking during a recent appearance on GB News, Carol acknowledged the relationship between the two presenters and said it was 'clear' that Holly and Phil do not get on anymore and that they should just consider leaving the show.
Recalling one time she appeared on This Morning to promote her book, Carol said that Phillip was rude to her, and she couldn't quite believe how he treated her while they were live on air.
While speaking to host Dan Wootton, Carol said: “Phillip was there but he wasn’t very nice, to be honest.
"He treated me as though it’s like ‘oh another Loose Woman with another book’ and I kind of get that but it was just like he was so not interested that it was a struggle.
“I was giggling and laughing actually because I couldn’t believe he was being so bloody rude.”
Carol then called for Phillip and Holly to step down to allow new presenters with fresh-eyes and ideas to take over.
Her confession comes amid reports that Phillip and Holly are set to take some time off from This Morning as rumours of a ‘feud’ between the pair continue.
The ITV presenters are said to have ‘cooled’ their 17-year friendship in recent weeks following reports of a fall out behind-the-scenes.
Some viewers have called for 61-year-old Phil to quit the show he has fronted for more than 20 years.
And earlier this week the Mirror exclusively revealed Holly, 42, is also considering her future on This Morning while ITV bosses are set to axe Phil if his on-screen chemistry with Holly is lost.
Amid the reported feud and speculation over the future of the This Morning line-up, Holly and Phil are set to take some time away from the programme.
Holly and Phil are thought to have taken Monday 29 May to Friday 2 June off work for the half-term holiday, returning on Monday, June 5, as they usually take school holidays off.
As is usual, other regular presenters – such as Dermot O’Leary, Alison Hammond and Josie Gibson – will step in to host during their absence.
