Carol Lynley death: Poseidon Adventure actor dies from heart attack, aged 77

Carol Lynley, who was best known for her role as Nonnie the cruise liner singer in The Poseidon Adventure, has died at the age of 77.

Lynley suffered a heart attack at her Pacific Palisades home on 3 September, her actor friend Trent Dolan confirmed to Variety.

A former child model, Lynley came to fame in the original 1958 Broadway production of Blue Denim, a controversial drama in which she played a 15-year-old pregnant girl seeking an abortion. Lynley subsequently starred in a film adaptation of the play a year later.

She received a Golden Globe nomination for Most Promising Female Newcomer for the role.

Lynley would go on to appear in films including The Poseidon Adventure, Bunny Lake is Missing, Under the Yum Yum Tree and The Pleasure Seekers.

Her TV credits included 11 episodes of Fantasy Island along with appearances in Charlie’s Angels, Kojak, Hawaii Five-0, The Love Boat and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Lynley married publicist Michael Selsman in 1960, before divorcing him in 1964. The pair had one daughter, Jill, a filmmaker.
