Thousands of students across the county are celebrating their GCSE results, including a prom king and queen who both achieved a clean sweep of grade 9s in all their GCSEs, and a pair of twins who will be going to different sixth forms next year after getting the grades they needed.
Schools across Nottinghamshire welcomed their Year 11s to the school for the final time on Thursday, August 25, to share the long awaited grades after months of hard work and revision. This year's GCSE results were determined by external exams for the first time since before the Covid-19 pandemic, and for most students these GCSEs were the first exams they have ever sat.
Many students have exceeded expectations, and thousands of students are now celebrating the end of an era as they round up their time at secondary school and plan their next steps in education, whether that be sixth form, college, A-levels, T-levels or an apprenticeship.

Carlton Le Willows Academy's prom king and queen, Cameron Barrs and Geneva Jones, have earnt their titles, as the pair have each received grade 9s in all of their GCSEs and become the schools top performers. Staff members are extremely proud of the pair as well as all their students who have shown determination and resilience.
A pair of twins from South Nottinghamshire Academy, Taylor and Caitlin Johnson, were also thrilled with their results, and have both received the grades they need to go to sixth form. However, the pair will be going to different sixth forms next month, which will be the first time they have not attended the same school.
When asked about their results, Taylor said: "I'm just relieved, I feel like I've been waiting for it and its just been taking ages to come and now they are finally here." Caitlin added: "I feel the same, it's just a relief."
Taylor will be studying Law, Biology, PE and Phycology at a sixth form in West Bridgford, and Caitlin will be attending the South Nottinghamshire Academy sixth form to study PE, Art and English Language.
When asked why she wanted to go to a different sixth form, Taylor said: "I just wanted a change of scenery really, and I know some people that I play football with also go there, and because they do law and they don't do it here."
Despite the challenging few years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, dozens of schools have secured their best results and the vast majority of students have achieved a strong pass in English and Maths. The Suthers School, a member of the Nova Trust, has received its first ever GCSE results since the school opened in 2017.
