Carlos Tevez has announced his retirement from football at the age of 38.
The Argentine international enjoyed a glittering career to have span across five different countries, winning trophies in Argentina, Brazil, England, Italy and China.
One of the most shocking Premier League arrivals of all time when joining West Ham from Corinthians in 2006, Tevez would go on to win the Premier League title with both Manchester United and rivals Manchester City.
That move across Manchester was another hugely controversial moment, with City proudly unveiling a now infamous “Welcome to Manchester” banner after his exit from Old Trafford.
Tevez, who won 76 caps at international level, ended his career at boyhood club Boca Juniors and cited the death of his father as one of the main reasons he decided not to continue.
“I have retired, it’s confirmed,” he confirmed in a statement.
“They offered me many things, including from the United States.
“But that’s it, I have given everything. Playing the last year was very difficult but I was able to see my old man.
“I stopped playing because I lost my number one fan.”
