Carlos Alcaraz has added the former Olympian, Samuel Lopez, to his coaching staff ahead of the 2025 tennis campaign.
Carlos Alcaraz Adds Olympian To Coaching Staff Ahead Of 2025
The Wimbledon champion, a title he earned after beating Novak Djokovic in the final, has decided to increase his team ahead of 2025 and Lopez will work with Alcaraz’s current team including head coach – Juan Carlos Ferrero.
Lopez has worked with several of Spain’s best Spanish tennis players, acting as the head coach for Pablo Carreno Busta for around nine seasons before leaving the Spaniard this year.
In fact, Lopez has even coached Alcaraz’s current mentor, Ferrero, who has guided the world No.2 since he was a teenager.
Alcaraz spoke on his new addition to the coaching staff and labelled Lopez as one of the best coaches available on the Tour.
He said: “I think Samuel, for me, is one of the best coaches that we have on Tour. Lopez and Ferrero trust each other 100 percent and being able to travel with both, for me, it’s going to be great.
“I think I’m going to grow as a player thanks to them. I think we are going to work pretty hard and pretty good for the next season and the next years. Hopefully we are going to make good results together.”
The Spanish tennis sensation also revealed his involvement in the decision making amongst his coaches, claiming his experience has earned him more control.
He said: “They’re listening to me much more than before. Obviously when I was 16 years old I had nothing to say. I was just mouth closed and ears open and did whatever he said.
“Right now I’m doing more things for myself, let’s say I’m taking more decisions, serious decisions.
“So I think (we) both are doing great work together as a person as well just to make sure this relationship is still pretty good and the love that we have for each other is huge. So I admire him as a professional but as a person as well.”
At this current moment in time Alcaraz is the youngest player to end a year as the No.1 in ATP history, winning the French Open and Wimbledon – which is why the Spaniard is one of the favourites to win the Australian Open in January on UK betting sites.
