Carlo Ancelotti in brutally honest Celtic Champions League assessment as Real Madrid boss predicts Bernabeu onslaught

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti reckons Celtic could have "done better" in the Champions League group stage ahead of their final matchday showdown with the Scottish champions.

Ange Postecoglou 's team are heading for Spain to face off against the European champions on Wednesday night with their hopes of progression in the competition already at an end, however four-time Champions League winner Ancelotti believes things could have been very different for Celtic in the group stage. He admits the Hoops gave Real a fright on the opening day of the group stage inside the Celtic Park cauldron.

He suggested Celtic could have kicked on from that display but states they can still be happy with their return to European football's big stage with two points picked up so far. Ancelotti expects that Celtic will continue their all-out attacking onslaught in a big to claim a historic result at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Ancelotti said: "I think that they are not going to change their identity. They will come here to play their football with intensity, with passion and with quality. We expect this.

"We will have to be at our best and we have a lot of respect for this team. For the quality that they have in their team they could done better, but they were really close in this group to have a result.

"They played really good in the first half against us. They played really well for 60 minutes against Leipzig, so I think they did well. "
