Carl Starfelt posts four word Celtic statement as he watches back League Cup win over Rangers

Carl Starfelt watched back the moment he lifted the League Cup as he made reference to the trophy win with a simple four word statement.

Celtic defeated rivals Rangers at Hampden Park to lift the first piece of silverware on offer this campaign thanks to a close-range double from Kyogo Furuhashi. Alfredo Morelos netted with 25 minutes to play to hand Michael Beale and his troops some hope on the day but it wasn't to be with Allan McGregor denying the Hoops further security late on on the counter-attack.

Ange Postecoglou won the competition last season to land his first trophy as Celtic boss and he made sure it wasn't going anywhere else but Parkhead this season and with that brought an end to Beale's unbeaten start to life in the Ibrox dugout. They also hold a nine point lead at the top of the Premiership standings over Rangers while they have the chance of winning the Scottish Cup with Hearts at Tynecastle next up in the quarter-finals.

This Celtic team are used to getting their hands on silverware and Starfelt made that clear by quipping: 'Cheers to another one' while posing with the Viaplay Cup on his social media channels. He also made it clear that he watched his performance back by posting clips of himself lifting the trophy and another clip showed him reading the game to perfection to break up a Rangers move.

Speaking after the Hampden triumph, Postecoglou told the Celtic website: “I thought Carl [Starfelt] and Cam [Cameron Carter-Vickers] were outstanding, but they have been for a very long time with us,” he said.

“They’ve got a really difficult role. People don’t understand. They see us dominate games and think they’ve got an easy job but sometimes they’ve got the hardest job because we’ll leave them defending one-on-one.

“You see most other team and defenders will have the luxury of having cover or an extra player, but they’ve got to defend one-on-one every week against opponents.

'We knew today that there would be moments in the game when they would have to defend strongly and I thought they did that.'

“They’re both real defenders – they love the art of defending and they’re not just about when we have the ball. They don’t shirk the physical side of it and they’re brave.

“I thought Alistair Johnston was brilliant defensively today as well, and even Greg – the amount of headers he wins for a guy his size.

“But it’s the fact that the lads won’t just settle for us being a team that just plays one way. Whatever needs to be done, particularly on days like today, they’ll do what needs to be done to win a game of football.”
