Carl Froch doubts Jake Paul is "stupid" enough to accept fight after call-out

Carl Froch believes Jake Paul isn't stupid enough to accept his recent fight call-out.

Paul is currently plying his trade in the boxing ring and is set to make his sixth professional appearance against Hasim Rahman Jr on August 6. The YouTube star has made an enemy of several people in both boxing and UFC with the likes of Tony Bellew and Conor McGregor trading verbal barbs with the social media star.

Paul was called out by former world champion Froch last week who has been highly critical of the early stages of the YouTuber's career so far. However Froch has responded after a tweet asked if the pair would really fight, writing: "He’s not that stupid!" Froch has not fought since 2014 when he fought in the infamous rematch with George Groves in front of 80,000 people at Wembley.

Despite insisting he will likely remain retired, Froch would be willing to step in the ring with Paul without taking part in any training. “I would yeah, because I wouldn’t consider that to be a fight,” Froch told the Daily Star when asked if he would consider fighting Paul. "I know he’s doing what he is doing, and he is improving, and he has people that want to watch him box, which is great, fair play to him.

"But somebody like that, how do I put it, if I tried to play football against the top clubs, it’s going to be pointless me being on the bench, or me playing tennis against the top players. Jake Paul, is playing at being a professional boxer, but he is not. He can’t really fight, he knows how to stand up straight and he knows how to swing a punch, but he’s not a professional boxer.

"So to answer your question, if Jake Paul called me out, then absolutely. I wouldn’t even train for it, I’d take him on, I’d beat him up, and I’d get a good pay day because it’s Jake Paul, then I would go home happy." Froch has been in talks to fight in an exhibition in the past against Roy Jones Jr but a return to the ring failed to materialise.

Paul is currently in training for his next fight where he will take on Rahman Jr who has a record of 12-1 as a professional fighter. The YouTube star was set to meet Tommy Fury but the British star was left unable to travel to the US, so the fight was shelved.

The 25-year-old has been linked with other exhibition fights including against Floyd Mayweather and most recently Mike Tyson. He has also called out several UFC fighters including McGregor and Nate Diaz, with the latter likely to be in the running for Paul's next fight upon the expiration of his contract.
