Carey Mulligan mistakenly announced as BAFTA winner as Kerry Condon reacts

Kerry Condon beat stiff competition in Carey Mulligan for her role in She Said, Dolly De Leon for Triangle of Sadness, Angela Bassett in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Jamie Lee Curtis in Everything Everywhere all at Once to win best actress in a supporting role.

Oscar-winning deaf actor Troy Kotsur presented the supporting actress award after a miscommunication – but the moment wasn't aired on TV.

The winner was first announced as Carey Mulligan before Troy's translator made a correction and Kerry was given the award.

On stage, Kerry said: “Thank you Martin (McDonagh) for this part, and thank you for all the parts you gave me throughout my career. You make me so proud to be an Irish woman.”

She also thanked the “amazing cast” and her family as well as her horses and dogs.

Speaking exclusively to the Mirror about the huge win, the BAFTA award- winning actress said: “They called out Kerry mulligan and I was like, 'Oh my god what the f**k' but I don’t care I just won it.

“I'm so shocked I can’t believe I won. I’ll be looking at this for the rest of my life.”

The mixup caused gasps in the audience and backstage, with one attendee at the star-studded ceremony overhearing organisers describing the mistake as “a disaster” backstage.

“It certainly sent a few people into a panic behind the scene,” the insider tells the Mirror.

“Thank god it wasn’t live and they have the chance to edit out awkward reactions on the audience before coverage began at 7pm.”

The moment wasn't aired in the televised version of the glittering ceremony and instead cut to Kerry taking to the stage to pick up her award.
